I am a Scenic Artist, Scenic Designer, Muralist, and Painter. Originally from Southern Utah, I relocated and currently work in Chicago— telling stories through art and design.

Sarah has been working in Chicago for the past 17 years and is a proud member of IATSE local USA 829 as a Scenic Artist. Sarah is currently the Scenic Charge Artist at Court Theatre, and does freelance work for Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Joffrey Ballet, Chicago Scenic Studios, Paramount Theatre, Drury Lane, and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Sarah works as a Scenic Charge Artist for Lookingglass Theatre Company, where she previously served as the Charge Scenic and Assistant for 6 years before returning for their theatre reopening in 2025. Sarah was a staff member at Steppenwolf Theatre Company for 8 years as the Assistant and served as the Charge for 7 of Steppenwolf’s productions. Sarah is originally from Utah and  studied at Southern Utah University. While her focus had always been in the visual arts, she made her way into theatre, focusing on Technical Theatre with a minor in Illustration. While attending, she worked as a Scenic Artist for The Utah Shakespearean Festival for 4 seasons. In 2009, she relocated to Chicago and has painted for Northwestern University, Timeline Theatre, American Theatre Co, and Crosstown Scenic, among others. 

Sarah periodically does commissioned murals and faux finishing for residential and commercial clients. She has worked a handful of private events as an Artistic Assistant, providing support to exhibiting artists. In 2022 she had the opportunity to design and paint a 25′ circular mural for a large private event which was positioned on the ground in front of the headliner stage. Sarah has traveled to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN to help assist the designer during the install of From The Heart (2024) and It’s a Wonderful Life (2016). Sarah travels to Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO every fall to lead a paint crew in the paint and scenic restoration of the their annual production of A Dickens Christmas Carol at the Opera House Theatre, located on the park. Throughout her career she has focused on long term investments in theatre companies she values, alongside the continued pursuit of varied freelance opportunities. She loves working with designers and the technical direction team. She loves leading a crew and helping other artists develop their skills.

Sarah has designed for Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, Lifeline Theatre, Big Noise Theatre, The Factory Theatre, The Wilmette Children’s Theatre, Mudlark Theatre, Piccolo Theatre, and The Jewish Community Center- Mayer Kaplan. In 2022, her design for Buffalo Theatre Ensemble‘s production of Naperville received a Jeff Award Nomination – Equity Wing. Her design work can be viewed HERE
